Family Day Care providers - How are they monitored?
Our Family Day Care Support Officers make unannounced home visits to care providers to see the children in care and to support and monitor the service.
These visits are documented. Spot checks from the National Childcare Accreditation Council and Department of Education and Early Childhood Development are also made.

Family Day Care providers - Who are they?
Our Care Providers have been selected based on their experience, knowledge and qualifications in the child care industry. We assess their interpersonal skills and the safety of their homes and vehicles.
All Family Day Care providers have a National Police check, State Working with Children check, and current First Aid, Asthma and Anaphylaxis certificates. They have had a medical check and their vehicles are 5 point safety checked.
We meet with all members of the family and any other residents over 18 years, who are also required to have a National Police Check.

How do I apply to become a Family Day Care provider?

We will visit you at home to discuss the process fully.

How many children can be cared for at one time?
Family Day Care Providers can care for 4 children not attending school, and 3 children attending school (including the care providers own children).

How much does Family Day Care cost?
Each Care provider sets fees independently.
Fees range from between $6 and $10 per hour per child.
Child Care Benefit and the Childcare Tax Rebate apply to Family Day Care.

What is the application process for becoming a Family Day Care provider?
The application process for Family Day Care providers involves the following steps:
- Application form
- Interview and assessment (written and oral)
- Home safety check
- National criminal record check, working with children check
- Reference checks
- Medical check
- Vehicle restraint check
Once registered, an orientation session will be conducted.
