Natural Science Illustration 

TUTOR:  Rita Parkinson

A course of natural science illustration that will teach students how to illustrate natural history subjects effectively. Emphasis will be placed on structures, concepts of drawing and painting accurately and realistically.

Students will work with a variety of forms such as insects, marine forms and botanical structures.

A workshop to discover the diverse techniques of this medium and the
design skills needed to emphasize the wonderful spirals and patterns found in a variety of shells. Colour pencil

Nov 7  Butterflies. Colour and light.
A workshop to uncover some mysteries. Pigment colour or structural colour? Why is the iridescent colour of a butterfly wing the brightest colour of all? Watercolour

Nov 21 Cactii. Perspective and structure.
The geometry needed to render these unusual plants accurately in 3D form.
And painting skills needed to render their details effectively.Watercolour
