Rosewall residents will soon be able to enjoy new and upgraded facilities at Connections Park thanks to improvements being funded by the Rudd Government’s Nation Building Economic Stimulus Package.
Member for Corio Richard Marles said a total of $1million was being spent including $500,000 on continuing redevelopment of Connections Park with the remainder funding exterior works to public housing in Rosewall.
Both projects will create local jobs through the CREATE@Work social enterprise.
Mr Marles joined Member for Lara John Eren and City of Greater Geelong’s Cr Cameron Granger on a tour of the park to see the new basketball half court in action.
“It is fantastic to see the great range of facilities being developed at Connections Park. These improvements create a recreation space that residents of all ages will enjoy,” Mr Marles said.
Landscaping, entrance upgrades, public art, a new barbecue pavilion, path extensions and a basketball half court are among the federally funded works underway at Connections Park.
These works complement new playgrounds, BMX jumps, skate pads, paths and landscaping recently completed at Connections Park, which were funded by the City of Greater Geelong.
Cr Granger thanked all residents actively involved in guiding the park’s redevelopment.
“For years Connections Park has been an empty paddock so it’s fantastic to see new community facilities adding life and vitality to this central part of Rosewall,” Cr Granger said.
The Victorian Government will deliver the improvements to public housing being funded by the Federal Government.
“We finally have a Federal Government that cares about the northern suburbs of Geelong,” Mr Eren said.
“I look forward to working with all tiers of government on future projects that will make the northern suburbs a great place to work, live and play.”
All works are expected to be finished in March, in time for the Rosewall ‘Going Potty’ Festival.
